iPhone SE (2020). Should you be excited?
So, iPhone SE huh. I actually took an interview for the techviews series of a friend as he owned the original iPhone SE.
We kinda diagressed and I ended up with a 2 hour long audio where we talked about everything and a little bit of iPhone SE.
I’d just start writing this post like it’s not been over an year since I published my last post and hope that none of you noticed that I was gone, which you never do anyway.
Another thing which I would like to say is that “Stay Home and Stay Safe”.
We need to be very cautious in these trying times and hence instead of roaming outside and having fun, I am here writing a blog for everyone.
Now as that’s out of the way, we’ll talk about iPhone SE, the 2020 edition and if you should be excited about it.
Now, my answer to the question is a big, fat……………………………………………………..
(I am gonna use a lot of “The Office” memes from now onwards so apologies in advance if you don’t like the show (I think you are tasteless if you don’t like it To Be Honest.))
The iPhone SE (2020)
Well, if you don’t know yet, Apple announced it’s latest iPhone which isn’t going to put a hole in your pocket (literally and figuratively).
The phone is iPhone SE (2020) which is a remodeled iPhone 8 (they just moved the logo from a little on the top side to the middle so that you can differentiate between an iPhone 8 and an iPhone SE.)
If you’re one of those people who went “EWWWWWW!!! So 2017!!!”, this isn’t the phone for you.(Yes, I am looking at all you millenials).
Now, then whom is it for you ask?
For anyone who is willing to make sensible life choices and people with small hands.
The iPhone SE (2020) is going to start at ₹42,500 in India. In the USA, it’s going to start at $399.
Let’s look at the specifications to put things a little more in perspective.
Specifications
Processor – A13 bionic chip (YES!!! same processor as an iPhone 11)
RAM – 3GB.
ROM – 64GB/128GB/256GB
Display – 4.7″ Retina Display (Warning, BIG FAT BEZELS FOUND!!!).
Water and Dust resistance – IP67 rated.
Primary Camera – f/1.8 aperture 12MP (No wide angle or telephoto lens).
Secondary Camera – f/2.2 aperture 7MP.
Video capabilities – 4K recording at 24, 30 or 60 FPS.
SIM – Single Nano SIM
Battery – 1960 mAh
Wireless Charging – Available
Colours available – Black, White and Red.
What I am excited about is the design which it brings back. I was always a fan of the sleek design iPhone had from iPhone 6 through iPhone 8.
It was something different and wasn’t just another piece of glass like every other phone nowadays.
What is it lacking?
A couple of things here and there, like the RAM and Battery but that has always been the case with iPhones. The processor and the OS is so well optimized that it gives similar levels of battery and performance as that of a premium Android smartphone.
The camera is another place where there’s no surety what’s in the package. But as suggest by Marques in his video, it’s ought to be better than iPhone 8’s camera which itself was pretty decent.
It only supports a single SIM and that’s a negative in my opinion.
But it is definitely not lacking bezels, I would say XD
Why should you buy it?
I am a Huge Android fanboy. My daily driver for the last couple of years is a Google Pixel 2 XL and if that doesn’t shout Android Fanboy then I am not sure what else will.
Coincidentally, my first blog was about Google Pixel 2. Go read it after you’re done reading this one.
But that doesn’t mean that I never wanted to own an iPhone. But it was always too expensive for me. And I don’t like buying older variants, so, getting an iPhone 6 when iPhone just launched didn’t feel right.
Apple might have speculated that there are many middle-class users like me who’d want to bragging rights of owning an Apple product but can’t afford it and hence, the iPhone SE.
Final Verdict
If you want a gorgeous, compact high performance smartphone which looks like it is straight out of 2017 but you won’t feel outdated using it, then it’s a definite buy.
But if you are one of those people who can’t look at bezels anymore, have this weird desire to look at notches, need multiple cameras which you never use or are interested in smartphones which resembles a glass slab which you used in physics lab to perform optics related experiments, this isn’t the phone you’ve been hoping for.
I know this is a short one but I am writing after a long time so cut me some slack will ya. I have covered most of what I believe is relevant about the phone.
Launch date is not in view, thanks to this Corona Pandemic.
